Limited OB Ultrasound for Pregnancy Care Centers – 16 Hours (2 Days) | In-Person | Houston, TX

Course Description:
This 2-day course is designed for medical professionals working in pregnancy care centers who want to develop or enhance their ultrasound skills for early obstetric evaluation. Participants will learn to obtain and interpret diagnostic-quality images through a combination of focused lectures and supervised hands-on scanning on live models. Instruction covers ultrasound instrumentation, female pelvic anatomy, and both transabdominal and endovaginal scanning techniques. Topics include fetal measurements, heartbeat assessment, pregnancy location, and recognition of early pregnancy complications.

Our small class sizes and experienced faculty provide individualized guidance, ensuring participants gain confidence and competence in performing limited OB ultrasound exams in the pregnancy center setting.

Target Audience

This course is designed for healthcare personnel seeking to learn OB ultrasound procedures specific to pregnancy care centers. Physician specialties may include—but are not limited to—OB/GYN, family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine, or radiology. The course is also beneficial for nurses, midwives, sonographers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and radiologic technologists.

AHEC Cancellation and Refund Policy for Skills Courses

AHEC defines a skills course as a limited enrollment course where a received registration with payment reserves your place in a course (i.e. all Ultrasound courses, Mammography Initial Training and other theory courses). For cancellations received at least two weeks prior to the course date, a refund less a 30% processing fee will be given. Within two weeks of the course, no refund is given, but a tuition credit – less a 30% processing fee – may be applied to a future course. No refunds or tuition credit is given for non-attendance. Facilities may substitute employees by notification to AHEC at least one week in advance.

  • Utilize the principles of instrumentation to obtain diagnostic images
  • Identify the difference in techniques related to transabdominal and transvaginal pelvic scanning techniques
  • Identify basic fetal anatomy
  • Complete a limited OB exam
  • Identify basic fetal anomalies and their ultrasound appearance
  • Apply appropriate measurement techniques for obtaining gestational age according to AIUM standards
  • Recognize the parameters needed to diagnose ectopic pregnancy

She has worked in private practices and pregnancy centers, hospitals in the Texas Medical Center and was an Application Specialist for GE Ultrasound. Debbie brings her educational talents to every class. She is highly motivating, patient and thorough in helping others acquire hands-on ultrasound skills. She has been part of the ultrasound faculty for AHEC for 19 years.
