Throughout the course, you will learn to define human trafficking and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, understand the difference between trafficking and smuggling, and explore the types of trafficking and vulnerability factors. You will also dive into traffickers' profiles and their recruitment tactics, and discuss the statistics of victims globally and locally.

One of the key takeaways from this course is the health impact of trafficking, including types of injuries to assist in identification, and strategies to aid in identification and assessment. You will also learn about the patient-centered approach, examples of appropriate language, and the importance of documentation.

In addition to this, you will be guided on creating a checklist to assist in identifying victims of human trafficking or smuggling, and be provided with resources for healthcare professionals to recognize, intervene, and refer trafficking victims, including the National Human Trafficking Hotline and state agencies in Texas.

By the end of this course, you will have a deep understanding of the types of human trafficking in the United States, and be better equipped to identify victims of human trafficking in healthcare settings. You will also be able to create an objective checklist to aid in determining if a patient is a victim of human trafficking/smuggling, and identify resources for reporting suspected victims of human trafficking.
