Any medical professional can take this course because it is approved by HHSC, and will satisfy the requirements set by the TMB for any health professional who is now required to have this training! The Human Trafficking Prevention course is taught by Damon Jackson, who has over 20 years of experience in classroom and hands-on instruction, over 15 years of experience in law enforcement, and has been a long-time faculty member at Advanced Health Education Center. Everyone who has attended a course presented by Damon knows about the passion and enthusiasm he brings to his courses, and we are confident he has created a comprehensive course that will be both informative and captivating for all healthcare professionals.

This comprehensive course is designed to equip healthcare professionals, including radiologic technologists, with the necessary skills and knowledge to identify and assist human trafficking victims.

Throughout the course, you will learn to define human trafficking and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, understand the difference between trafficking and smuggling, and explore the types of trafficking and vulnerability factors. You will also dive into traffickers' profiles and their recruitment tactics, and discuss the statistics of victims globally and locally.

One of the key takeaways from this course is the health impact of trafficking, including types of injuries to assist in identification, and strategies to aid in identification and assessment. You will also learn about the patient-centered approach, examples of appropriate language, and the importance of documentation.

In addition to this, you will be guided on creating a checklist to assist in identifying victims of human trafficking or smuggling, and be provided with resources for healthcare professionals to recognize, intervene, and refer trafficking victims, including the National Human Trafficking Hotline and state agencies in Texas.
