Ready to strengthen your skills in OB/GYN ultrasound? This three-day, hands-on course offers a focused and practical approach to scanning and image interpretation. Each day combines lecture, discussion, and live model scanning for an engaging, interactive learning experience.

You’ll start with the essentials—ultrasound physics, instrumentation, and pelvic and fetal anatomy—then move into case-based learning that explores both normal and abnormal findings. In our on-site scan lab, you’ll practice transabdominal and endovaginal scanning techniques under expert supervision, gaining the confidence to perform complete pelvic and obstetric ultrasounds according to AIUM guidelines.

Target Audience

Physicians seeking hands-on scanning experience performing OB and gynecological ultrasound. Physician specialties can include but are not limited to OB/GYN specialists, family practice, internal medicine, emergency medicine or radiology. In addition, this course is beneficial for nurses, midwives, sonographers, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and radiology personnel.

AHEC Cancellation and Refund Policy for Skills Courses

AHEC defines a skills course as a limited enrollment course where a received registration with payment reserves your place in a course (i.e. all Ultrasound courses, Mammography Initial Training and other theory courses). For cancellations received at least two weeks prior to the course date, a refund minus the 3% transaction fee and a 30% processing fee will be given. Within two weeks of the course, no refund is given, but a tuition credit – less a 30% processing fee – may be applied to a future course. No refunds or tuition credit is given for non-attendance. Facilities may substitute employees by notification to AHEC at least one week in advance.

At the completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  • Utilize the principles of instrumentation to obtain diagnostic images
  • Recognize normal and abnormal pelvic anatomy
  • Identify the difference in techniques related to transabdominal and endovaginal pelvic scanning techniques
  • Identify basic fetal anatomy and biophysical profile
  • Identify basic fetal anomalies and their ultrasound appearance
  • Apply appropriate measurement techniques in transabdominal and endovaginal scanning
  • Identify ultrasound findings in evaluating ectopic pregnancy

Debbie is a sonography instructor for Advanced Health Education Center. Debbie has over 25 years experience in Abdominal and OB/Gyn Ultrasound. She has worked in private practices and pregnancy centers, hospitals in the Texas Medical Center and was an Application Specialist for GE Ultrasound. Debbie brings her educational talents to every class. She is highly motivating, patient and thorough in helping others acquire hands-on ultrasound skills. She has been part of the ultrasound faculty for AHEC for 19 years.
