Summary of the Major Provisions of the Proposed Rule

Address changes in mammography technology
Update equipment and QC regulations to current digital technology
Improvements that enhance enforcement of quality standards
Require mammograms submitted for interpretation be in modality in which they originally produced
Changes in accreditation application acceptance from facilities that have failed after three consecutive attempts
Expressly state a facility’s certificate may be suspended or revoked due to failure to comply with reasonable requests
Add State certification agency as an entity that may initiate an AMR
Require facility who are closing, to make arrangements for patient and providers access to mammography image and reports
Require facilities to provide personnel copies of their MQSA qualification records
Improvements in the way mammography repot are categorized, reported, retained transferred to patient and healthcare providers
Require exam report include the facility name and address at a minimum
Change explanatory language in (“benign”) category to promote greater consistency and add three new categories of assessment
Add a specific required timeframe for facilities to deliver medical reports in reporting BIRADS 4&5assessment categories
