• Mammography: Compliance to Confidence

With a focus on enhancing enforcement of quality standards, Peggy Hoosier, M.Ed, RT(R)(M)  emphasizes the importance of producing and interpreting mammograms in their original modality. You will explore changes in accreditation application acceptance, learn about the implications of failing consecutive attempts, and understand how a facility's certificate may be suspended or revoked due to non-compliance. Moreover, you will discover strategies for ensuring patient and provider access to mammography images and reports during facility closures.

Expand your expertise by understanding the requirements and national guidelines for becoming a Breast Health Navigator. Gain insights into different breast cancer types, their staging, and grading, empowering you to recognize suitable treatment options based on cancer grade and stage. Furthermore, you'll explore available community programs tailored to meet diverse patient needs and discover the vital support systems required during treatment, both mentally and physically.

 MQSA Update for Mammography  

  • Summary of the Major Provisions of the Proposed Rule 

  • Categories of Improvements to Mammography Regulation 

  • Address changes in mammography technology  

  • Update equipment and QC regulations to current digital technology  

  • Improvements that enhance enforcement of quality standards 

  •  Require mammograms submitted for interpretation be in modality in which they originally produced 

  • Changes in accreditation application acceptance from facilities that have failed after three consecutive attempts 

  • Expressly state a facility’s certificate may be suspended or revoked due to failure to comply with reasonable requests 

  • Add State certification agency as an entity that may initiate an AMR 

  • Require facility who are closing, to make arrangements for patient and providers access to mammography image and reports 

  • Require facilities to provide personnel copies of their MQSA qualification records  

  • Improvements in the way mammography repot are categorized, reported, retained transferred to patient and healthcare providers 

  • Require exam report include the facility name and address at a minimum 

  • Change explanatory language in (“benign”) category to promote greater consistency and add three new categories of assessment  

  • Add a specific required timeframe for facilities to deliver medical reports in reporting BIRADS 4&5assessment categories 

  • Require reporting to patients and healthcare providers to include an assessment of breast density categories of mammography assessment 

Becoming a Breast Health Clinical Navigator:

  • Understanding what is required to become a Breast Health Navigator. Knowing what the national guidelines are for breast health and testing. 
  • Knowing the breast cancer types and what the staging and grades mean.  

  • Be able to recognize what treatment options are and when they should be used depending the cancer grade and stage. 

  • Know what programs are available in your community for patients’ different needs.  

  • What types of help patients need mentally and physically during treatments.
